12th March 2025
The weather was cold but dry as 20 Donmog Members arrived to park in front of the main entrance and to be greeted by two Morgan Cars proudly displayed at the top of the steps. We did not know that our host for the day was a longstanding Morgan owner, absolute petrol head and race winner. His trophies proudly displayed in the meeting room.

Our host, Andrew Thompson, gave an introductory talk on both the history and the ambitions of Great Northern Classics followed by a private guided tour of the facility.

Described as “The Heritage Motoring Destination” this huge ex Rolls Royce site contains not only numerous motoring exhibits but also training facilities and workshops rented out to tenants who perform various services ranging from repairs to restorations; detailing to diagnostics; luxury car sales to coach trimming……and more.
In for repair

The “behind the scenes” tour was hugely interesting and filled with so many anecdotes and facts that I think are best summarised with photographs rather than words. However, for even more words do visit their website.

The facility is also home to a temperature and humidity controlled warehouse where private owners can rent space to store their prized possessions.
Such is the mystery surrounding this industry that the actual owners of some of the cars are unknown to Great Northern Classics and they can be sold and repurchased without the car even being moved.
On the other hand there are some more common types in storage as well as museum pieces. For security reason access was prohibited.

Many thanks to Chris & Debbie for organising a brilliant event and to Andrew for hosting our group. The morning finished with lunch in the café whilst watching a film of the launch of the new Morgan Supersport.
