February Noggin Walk & Pub Lunch

18th February 2026

After monsoon like conditions over the past weeks, Wednesday dawned dry – our second dry day in Costock for 40 days and 40 nights. Making our way to Melbourne, avoiding the closed roads and myriad potholes, we arrived in good time at The Spirit Vaults and made a bee line to order coffees. Martin made sure that everyone got to see the owner’s Morgan Two, propped up in pride of place. The bar was soon thronged with DonMoggers ready to face a cool walk – some more wrapped up, insulated and heated than others.

After coffees (and the odd tea), Martin called us to order and we set off on a gentle stroll past Melbourne Lake and onward into the countryside. The birdsong of the Derbyshire Countryside was drowned by the chatter of 24 DonMoggers as we enjoyed a scenic walk.

Returning to the pub, we were assured that muddy boots were not a problem. Food arrived quickly and, looking around the room at the empty plates, seemed to go down very well. Noggin business was swiftly conducted and all too soon it was time to set off for home.

Thank you to Martin and Nina for organising and leading the walk and for arranging a splendid pub for lunch.
