Well, it finally took off – our long awaited weekend trip to Llandudno after being in the planning for 3 years. The journey out was a nightmare as the M6 and the A51 were shut but we still managed to make our rendezvous with the Pawleys in Prestatyn for lunch, before heading for the CaeMor hotel.
Having unpacked, we took the opportunity to have a stroll along the Prom to the pier. The sun was shining and we partook of hot drinks from the cafe at the end.
In the evening we made our way to Dylan’s who had kindly agreed to feed us every evening due to the lack of kitchen staff at our hotel. At the moment there are 70 chefs are required in Llandudno alone.
Saturday, we ventured up the Great Orme on the tram and after a coffee we made our way down on foot past the ski centre and into Happy Valley. Having already sampled the beer at The Cottage Loaf on a previous visit we were anxious to repeat the experience with some lunch. Unfortunately, the table we were at was not having food served to it so we had a couple of rounds of drinks and a snack before purchasing some cobs which we ate on the seafront. Following a comfort break back at the hotel we had another stroll down the pier before returning to the hotel.
Because of the lack of food at our hotel they gave us a drinks reception before we set off for Dylan’s again. This gave me the opportunity to recite a poem by Les Barker giving a very different take on the Titanic disaster.
Sunday the weather was not quite so kind so we decided to drive to Plas Newydd on Anglesey where we were given the opportunity to go on a red squirrel walk and managed tosee 7 different squirrels. We then viewed the Rex Whistler exhibition on the ground floor ofthe house before having lunch in the cafe.
Nina & Martin also visited Anglesey to explore the South Stack Lighthouse & RSPB reserve before heading into Conwy to explore the Castle Wall Walk and L’s Tearoom’s Vanilla slices.
The weekend was unexpectedly rain free for most of the time and driving around the Great Orme on the way home Tony & Sue met an unusual fellow road user.
Despite all the alterations to our weekend, everyone seemed to have a good time and it was a bonus to have a hotel with a car park on the seafront. Many thanks to all those who stuck with us even though the original plans had changed.
