With a good weather forecast in the bag and a pleasant drive in store, 35 intrepid DonMog, LinMog and FringeMog members gathered with guests on the shores of Rutland Water. Having successfully negotiated the signs into the car park, all the cars assembled overlooking the lake.
Our ship was ready for us and we were soon embarking on the Rutland Belle. The crew gave us teas and coffees and force fed us biscuits. Rob introduced the day and asked us to observe a 2 minute silence in memory of Her Majesty the Queen. After the safety briefing, we were off at a gentle pace. A jolly narrative guided us around the lake.
We soon arrived at Normanton Church and learned about its history. There was a chance to go ashore and look round the building. Some of us tried to work out the height of the original floor until we were informed that the floor level has been raised by 10′.
Back aboard we continued our cruise back to the embarkation point. The view of the lake from the boat was very peaceful in the lovely sunshine that Rob had arranged for us.
Once back at the cars, it remained for us to do battle with the parking payment machines and make our way to the Blue Ball at Braunston. Lunch was splendid and it was served over lots of chatter.
All in all, a grand day out. Many thanks to Rob Hounslow for organising the trip.
