SHACKERSTONE
or we NEARLY MISSED THE TRAIN
We set off from Lincoln with time to spare, or so we thought.
Good time was made up to a point about 5 miles from Shackerstone station when we hit the dreaded ROAD AHEAD CLOSED. So, we followed Sally Sat Nav and 25 minutes later arrived at ROAD AHEAD CLOSED. After a call to Mary to say we were en route, we managed to find another way to the meeting point. We were not the last to arrive. We made it to the engine shed and missed a small bit of this part of the tour.
After a coffee and seeing the Diesel train pull in, we all now enjoyed the nostalgic ride to the end of the track and back.
Regrouping, we now all made for the amble along the the canal tow path to the lunch destination at the Horse & Jockey where they split us up into two groups at different tables.
After an excellent meal we all ambled back again on the canal side to our starting point at the station, a natter and to say our farewells and head back home.
Thanks to Mary and Nev for a splendid few hours of chat and relaxation and learning something new about this railway.
