Tuesday 22nd August
On arriving at the Lakeside Bistro in Shortheath, Moira, we discovered we had been allocated a private decking area under an open sided canopy where we had tea, coffee and cakes as we admired the view over the scenic fishing lake.
Exactly as planned 16 Donmog members departed the Bistro at 11am in near perfect weather for the walk to Hicks Lodge Lake via Moira Furnace.
With members from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire and Lincolnshire I soon noticed we had quickly split into two distinct groups.
The walkers and the talkers – The former finishing the walk 20 minutes ahead of our estimated time; the latter exactly on time for the 1pm lunch.
THE WALKERS – OUT IN FRONT
THE TALKERS – CROSSING THE CANAL
The talkers set a more sedate pace with Richard frequently offering up his local knowledge of the area to eager listeners………..well just the one in this shot.
The lake which was formed from old coalmining works, as you can make out in the top photo, was looking great in the summer sunshine.
We returned to our private decking area for a well-earned beer etc before our pre-ordered lunches arrived and we were joined by our chairperson Liz Ellis. It seems everyone enjoyed the day. Nina & I thank you all for your support.
