Grass Autotest – 8th June 2024

After a weather enforced postponement, we gathered on a cool, but dry, Saturday afternoon in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. Picnics were set up and, whilst we munched, Frank and Linda made easy work of getting us all signed in. After a brief course walk, we made a start on the competition.

The course was good to soft (extremely soft in places – Frank had set up a “if you don’t want to be towed out, don’t cross this line” cordon to isolate the worst of the going at the far end of the field).

Competitors, marshals and the scoring team set to. There was some debate in one or two of the cars as to the correct route.

After six rounds, we gathered round the score-board to see who had won. Mr consistent Peter Deans was in first place with Richard Davies as runner-up and Martin Rickerd in third place. The ladies trophy went to Jan Fileman with Linda Orton as runner-up.

At the end of the competition, we retired to Richard & Jenny’s garden for the traditional barbecue – with a wonderful selection of desserts to follow – thank you to all those who contributed. And special thanks to Richard and Jenny for being very generous hosts for the barbecue.

Many thanks to our hosts at Ingles Hill Farm, to our scoring team and to Ian and Mike for marshalling. As always, we are indebted to Frank for setting the courses and to Richard for coordinating the event.
